The Hobbit, one of the most famous fantasy books of all time is finally going to be adapted into a feature film. Peter Jackson will be directing the movie as he did for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which grossed $2.924 billion total. His new movie has already attracted quite a large following at Arlington High.
Christina Payne, senior, said, “I’m extremely excited for it because I am such a big fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the hobbit is going to expand the back story for those movies. I’m also excited for more great music.”
The Hobbit has already been released in New Zealand as of November 28. Many online giveaways are being held for Hobbit prizes and tickets to American premiers. In Arlington, at the AMC Theater in the Parks mall, there will be a feature showing of the Lord of the Rings trilogy on December the 8th, for $25. This deal includes a promotional Hobbit gift.
Zayne Sanchez, junior, said, “I can’t wait to see it. The trailer looks awesome!”
The Hobbit has most definitely attracted a lot of attention because of all of the marketing being done but will it live up to its hype? The Hobbit book is being made into three parts. An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smog, and There and Back Again. The Lord of the Rings trilogy page count is a total of 1157 pages, and Jackson made three movies for each book. That’s about 386 pages per movie. While the Hobbit is a mere 320 pages maximum. The trilogy almost seems unjustifiable but Peter Jackson is adding about a hundred pages of back story from Tolkien’s appendices.
Ploy to get more money or true concern for the education of fans? The crowds will decide. Either way, the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a must see for all LOTR fans. It’ll be an adventure worth going on.
