The exciting news of a college Bachelors degree for only $10,000 has been proposed by Texas state Governor Rick Perry and has met the ears of aspiring college graduates everywhere.
“Texans deserve college graduation for their hard-earned tax dollars, not just college enrollment. . . I’m challenging our institutions of higher education to develop bachelor’s degrees that cost no more than $10,000, including textbooks,” Rick Perry, Texas Governor, said in his State of the State address in 2011.
The Governor wants to make sure that Texans are being educated for a reasonable price because many families cannot afford the price of college. The college education could stimulate Texas economy by insuring that the unemployment rate will decrease.
“I think that considering the economic downturn we’ve been having, a guaranteed degree at 10,000 dollars is a great idea,” Arlington High School Savannah Bruce, senior, said. This opinion is echoed among many of the students at Arlington High.
Unfortunately for Texas high school students, this degree deal is only offered at A&M-San Antonio, Alamo College, and UT-Permian Basin. In addition to the degrees being only at these colleges, the $10,000 degree is only offered for an Applied Arts and Sciences Degree.
