Imagine a world where science and magic are indistinguishable. Imagine that it exists millennia from now in a world similar to ours but at the same time entirely different. Its time distortion garners qualities of the far future and the long past. Welcome to the world of Numenera.
“Torment: Tides of Numenera” is a PC role playing video game currently in production by inXile Entertainment and set to release late next year. This new addition is the spiritual successor of “Planescape: Torment” which was critically acclaimed when it debuted in 1999.
“Tides of Numenera” has earned significant support from the moment its kickstarter went up on March 6. When inXile first launched their 30 day kickstarter, they set a production goal of $900,000. Within seven hours of the kickstarter’s debut, it produced $1 million in funds, a record for the program. At the end of the 30 day period, the project had raised $4,188,927 with 74,405 donators. Certain stretch goals were met during this pruch as the inclusion of Chris Avellone, lead designer of “Planescape: Torment”, on the development team.
The video game and its ethos are based off of Numenera, a science-fantasy role playing game published by Monte Cook. Cook is most highly recognized for his work on “Dungeons and Dragons”. “Torment: Tides of Numenera” uses the same d20 rule set as Numenera and expounds and adapts the world.
“Torment: Tides of Numenera” is sure to be a compelling adventure and we can only hope for a quick release!
