The Wolf Among Us episode two, entitled Smoke and Mirrors, was less than pleasing for several reasons. This episode was released on February 5th internationally and there were many problems with the release and content of the episode.
The first huge problem with the episode was it’s release date. The first episode was released on October 15th and the second was not released until February 5th. The time between the two episode’s release was 112 days, a little more than a third of the year. The wait was excruciatingly painful for most fans and if they release episodes at this rate the game will not be finished until 2015. The developing problems witnessed here are almost unforgivable especially when the last episode was left at a cliffhanger. I was hanging on a cliff for 112 days!
The second problem was that the season pass for the game did not work on Xbox 360. A season pass allows a player to buy all episodes in advance for a discounted price. The error was this: when a season pass holder selected the episode to play they were instructed to purchase the episode even though the season pass should have paid for it. This bug was not fixed until February 8th.
The third and final problem was the story itself. They dulled the impact of a significant twist at the end of the first episode by essentially making it null and void in this episode. The length of the episode was also significantly shorter than the first episode’s, which was a huge let down after the long wait. Overall, the story in the second episode felt very slow and uninspired.
The second episode was a vast bummer. I will wait patiently for the next episode, but I am not going to get my hopes up.
