Colt soccer captain kicks to victory
Arlington High Varsity Soccer Captain Reggie Gonzales recently broke the record for goals made in a season. The last record was set at 50 goals in the 2007-2008 seasons by Rogelio Funes Mori, who now plays for SC Benfica in Portugal. Reggie Gonzales beat this record at 51 accumulated goals.
Reggie’s Coach applauds his performance on the Varsity team.
“I am very proud of Reggie’s accomplishment. It is a testament to his work ethic, passion and desire. He has served as captain the past 2 seasons. His ability and leadership has been the key to our success.” Varsity Soccer Coach, Jeff Waldrop stated.
Although Reggie has been praised for the score he set, he attests his victory to his team.
“My team is the reason I broke this record. It was essentially them that broke it because without my team I would be nothing and they are the ones that always have my back and cheer me on. I give all my success to them.” said Reggie Gonzalez.
When asked how he felt about his success, Reggie humbly replied, “I’m excited because it makes our team look good because of all the things they’ve done to contribute. It puts a smile on all of our faces and makes us all feel good about ourselves”.
The varsity soccer team made it to the playoffs for the 4th year in a row this year, and they were one point away from first at the district tournament. Reggie Gonzales dreams of playing soccer for a professional team. Reggie carries the spirit of AHS on his shoulders.
