Student dies in car accident
AHS is mourning the loss of a student. Junior Lelys Leyva-Monreal was killed in a traffic accident early Saturday morning. Leyva-Monreal fell from the window of a moving vehicle on Cooper Street. She was transported to Medical Center in Arlington and was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. AHS has grief counselors available for students affected by the tragedy. The family will have a private funeral service but they will have a memorial service at Mosaic Church Friday, May 2 from 6 – 9 p.m. This service is open to everyone. Her family has also set up a memorial fund at www.gofundme.com/8gtehg.
“Lelys was very fun loving and bigger than life,” Jean Curtis, AHS teacher, said. “She was very compassionate and helped anyone who needed it, even if she didn’t know them.”
