Staffer reflects on death with dignity
Cancer has become a big part of modern day life, it seems like everyone has either been affected by cancer or knows someone who has.
According to a Washington Post article, Brittany Maynard was a brain cancer patient who decided she was done fighting and chose to “die with dignity”. Now the question remains, is it right or wrong to kill yourself when you’re sick?
Personally, I think it’s entirely up to the person who is sick. Maynard had a “stage 4 malignant brain tumor” and had been experiencing frequent seizures and stroke-like symptoms. Think about it, if you know you are going to die soon and you know it will be extremely painful and horrible, why wouldn’t you kill yourself?
According to the Washington Post, Brittany Maynard’s death is significant because most people are very quiet about choosing suicide and Maynard was just so open and public about her decision.
Other people feel that it is wrong or “unholy” to kill yourself, even when terminally ill. That is so ridiculous to me because we have no clue how horrible it is to have cancer. The Bible is often cited as justification for condemning people to hell for suicide, but the Bible says “there is nothing that can separate you from God once you’ve accepted Jesus into your heart”. This means that if you subscribe to Christianity, nothing, not even suicide can separate you from God.
Now it’s time to live and let die, rest in peace Brittany Maynard.
Enough said.
