School safety – is that an oxymoron?
In light of the recent incident involving a gun on campus, its only natural to question the level of security we have at this school. Yes they caught the person, and no, nobody was hurt. But the fact still remains that a firearm was found in Arlington High School.
What we want to know is, what is the administration going to do to prevent this from happening again? They can’t expect us to be content with just hoping it doesn’t happen again.
What’s worse, is the fact that in the same day a flasher was reported near the campus. If Arlington High School was seen from a third person, it would look like anarchy. I mean come on, a gun and a naked person in one day?
I feel that the powers that be should brainstorm some ideas to prevent these things from happening again. Some ideas that have already been circulated among the students are more security officers, a formal speech given to students by the administration, and better monitoring of the cameras for suspicious activities.
The district needs to address these issues before something worse happens.
Enough said.

The Arlington Independent School District already has several security measures in place which most students and many adults ignore on a daily basis, most notably, IDs for anyone who enters an AISD building, check-in procedures to get an ID, and all outside doors locked except for the doors nearest the two offices where guests are asked to check-in.
Many students won’t wear IDs, adults don’t check-in or, if they do, they don’t put on their ID, and both adults and students open locked doors to allow in other people who are not wearing an ID and who have not checked in.
If these easy to do things aren’t being followed correctly why would one think that other safety measures would be followed?
