New movie delights, staffer predicts Oscar in its future
Based on the novel by Andy Weir, “The Martian,” directed by Ridley Scott, is definitely one of the better movies to come out this year.
Accidentally left on Mars by the rest of his NASA crew, Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) is forced to do nothing but wait and try to survive on a planet that contains no life or water source, while the rest of NASA attempts to bring the lost astronaut home.
“The Martian” has gotten an overload of excellent reviews, standing at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and has an 8.4/10 on MetaCritic, and for good reason too. The story will keep you immersed through every second, and it rarely screeches to a halt. The narrative keeps moving forward, and every scene has significance to advancing the story.
The special effects for “The Martian” are not to be neglected either. Every scene is done gorgeously, and the atmosphere is able to collide with the tone of the story.
The background tracks are done beautifully, and “The Martian” even contains a considerable amount of disco music. Don’t ask why, just see the movie yourself and find out. Or Google it. Whatever.
I also cannot ignore the performances from these amazing actors. Of course, Matt Damon did an outstanding job, but Jessica Chastain’s performance of Commander Melissa Lewis also really stood out to me. These are just two of the performances that were incredible, but every actor did a great job. Not one seemed insincere or lacking the emotion needed for the certain scene.
“The Martian” is the perfect combination of funny, emotional, serious and even a little bit romantic. It has something for everyone, even if you’re not a big fan of space movies.
Overall, I will be very surprised if “The Martian” isn’t nominated for any Oscars and doesn’t win at least one because this movie is incredible. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend that you do. It is a fantastic experience that won’t disappoint you.
