AHS mourns the passing of one of their own
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our counselors, Greg Matlock.
Gregory Lawrence Matlock
9/11/68 – 11/16/15
Greg Matlock passed away November 16th at 5:15 pm. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeannie Matlock. He is survived by his father Henry Matlock Sr. and 3 siblings Rosalyn Matlock Watts, Henry Matlock Jr. and Brian Matlock. Greg grew up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was a member of the ROTC and joined the US Army. He graduated from UAPB with a degree in industrial technology then received a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Prairie View A&M.
Greg served the students of the AISD for over 15 years as a teacher, assistant principal and counselor. He worked at several campuses including Ellis, Hutch, Sam Houston, Seguin and Arlington High. Throughout his years he helped the students at each of these schools reach their goals. Greg’s gentle kindness and his quiet compassion were a gift to so many. He never asked for recognition or acclaim for all the good works he did, he simply took care of others as he was he was called to do. Greg was an example for all of us of humility, grace and heart. His easy laugh and smile will be missed by all those who have known him. Rest in peace our dear friend.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday November 24th at 1313 Pines Street in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Donations and cards can be delivered to Meggan Horne or Ravonne Allmon Smith at Arlington High School for delivery to the family.
