Queso or ques-no?
More stories from Angel Garcia
Every Texan can attest to the fact that queso is by far the most vital of all food groups, and that it is a recommended part of any balanced diet. With a Tex-Mex joint on practically every corner, including Fuzzy’s, Torchy’s and Chuy’s, it wouldn’t be an understatement to say that we here in Arlington are queso snobs.
Popular restaurant chain Chipotle rolled out their all new line of “all-natural” queso last week and customers were less than satisfied to say the least.
“I really didn’t like the texture,” senior Kaleah Kunkle said. “The queso itself was okay but the texture felt too fake and grainy for me.”
Other consumers echoed the same sentiments regarding the consistency of the new cheese dip.
“It was just way too chunky, which I didn’t expect,” senior Shania Jackson said. “It tasted a little like powder. I’d literally rather have melted Velveeta cheese.”
Chipotle spokesperson Chris Arnold spoke with Business Insider regarding the negative feedback, stating “not all” of the reviews were bad.
“Most [quesos are] made with a bunch of artificial ingredients (stabilizers, preservatives and artificial flavors, for example) and that is not something we do,” Arnold said. “Given the pre-conceived notion many people have about what queso is (and isn’t), we knew there would be some who didn’t like it based on the simple fact that ours is different, largely because it’s not made with artificial ingredients.”
Customers of the casual fast food restaurant have been requesting queso since the dawn of time, and while most are dissatisfied with the final product, some diehard fans are defending Chipotle’s latest creation.
However, overall the new menu item hasn’t been doing so well, and will likely not stick around for long.
