The danger of politicizing weapons

‘Multiple Fatalities’ in Florida Mass Shooting: Suspect in Custody, 20+ Injured at Parkland’s Stoneman Douglas High School / Boing Boing

When a child repeatedly abuses or breaks a particular toy, it is only logical to take the toy away. With the painfully recent shooting in Parkland, Florida, the U.S. populous has proven itself a bunch of toddlers. With no more to show than thoughts and prayers, the political machine has failed not only the 18 dead kids, but every single student in every single high school since the first mass shooting.

We are 45 days into the year. There have been 18 shootings. That averages to about one shooting every other day. Eight of those shootings have resulted in casualties. If the democratic party is complicit in every death caused by an illegal immigrant, as per Trump, than the Republicans are complicit in every gun-related death. That includes not only Parkland, Vegas and Columbine, but every back alley mugging gone wrong, every time some teenager blows his buddy’s head off messing around with something he shouldn’t have had, every time a domestic argument turns bloody.

One single man with a bomb in his shoe now makes us remove our shoes on flights of any distance. Hundred of shooting deaths have resulted in nothing.

Every preventable tragedy is an act of malice.
