The sounds of construction in the C hall courtyard will soon be replaced by the screams of terror as Christopher Grimaldo’s Principles of Construction students turn the area into a haunted horror.
“The entire courtyard is going to be a haunted house and each part is going to have its own creation,” Grimaldo said. “The first section is The Ring, they have the TV from the ring, and the next one is Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the bed setting and everything, then there is an alien maze, then right after the maze you’re going to run right into the clown section and they’re gonna jump out at you, and the butcher shop is after that, then we have the haunted graveyard and when you reach the end, well I can’t tell you, you’ll have to wait to find out.”
Students will be able to wind their way through the courtyard next Monday and Tuesday before school starts but to get the first scare, students, faculty, and families are invited to The Haunted Courtyard Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
“Mrs. Humbles was the one with the idea as a way where parents and siblings can be involved, and they can see what their kids have been working on,” Grimaldo said. “It will be a chance to experience these wonderful creations made by the students.”
This is the second year Grimaldo and his students have built the haunted house as a class project.
“The idea behind it in general was to show what construction can do,” he said. “I myself was involved in the last haunted houses in my previous campus but coming here and being able to have a space, the space is what I love. It kind of brings that whole haunted feel to it. The trees, the air, and nature really brings it all together.”
In addition to the construction students, other groups are also involved. Art Club has helped paint props, Fashion Club has designed ghosts for the campfire, theatre students will be actors, and photography students will be taking pictures.
In the end, giving kids a good scare is what Grimaldo loves the most.
“Halloween is my favorite holiday,” he said. “I love giving people a good scare. I love giving the scare more than being scared.”
