With his family and friends in the stands, senior Owen Nelson achieved his 100th career win at the UIL District tournament in January. He had wrestled for the school team since his freshman year. The Colt sat down with him to talk about his accomplishment.
The Colt: How did it feel to get your 100th career win?
Owen Nelson: I felt great, and it was even better that my family was there to celebrate with me.
TC: How did you do this season overall?
ON: I think I did good. (According to Coach Troy Collins, Owen Nelson finished the regional tournament with a 3rd Place Medal. At the end of the season, and his high school wrestling career, he had 104 wins.)
TC: When you lose, do you see them as failures or as lessons?
ON: I see them as lessons, because I wrestle very skilled guys, so I learn from my mistakes.
TC: When did you start wrestling?
ON: I started wrestling when I was in 6th grade.
TC: What weight class do you wrestle in?
ON: I wrestle in the 190 weight classes.
TC: How do you train?
ON: I usually train during the summer, all summer, and just practice a ton.
TC: What’s your go-to winning move?
ON: Probably a double-leg.
